Ο Andrew Solomon γεννήθηκε το 1963 στη Νέα Υόρκη. Σπούδασε στο πανεπιστήμιο Γέιλ και στο πανεπιστήμιο του Καίμπριτζ. Ζει στο Λονδίνο και τη Νέα Υόρκη και έχει διπλή υπηκοότητα. Έγινε μέλος στα συμβούλια οργανισμών όπως οι Outward Bound, The Alliance for the Arts, The Shakespeare Project, The World Monuments Fund, The New York Public Library, The New York Institute for the Humanities καθώς και εταίρος του Berkeley College του Γέιλ.
