Ο William Dunham γεννήθηκε το 1947. Σπούδασε τοπολογία, αλλά ενδιαφέρθηκε για την ιστορία των μαθηματικών και ειδικεύτηκε στο έργο του Λέοναρντ Όυλερ. Πήρε αρκετά βραβεία για τα γραπτά του και την διδασκαλία του πάνω στο θέμα. Έργα του είναι: Journey Through Genius. The Great Theorems of Mathematics (1990), The Mathematical Universe.
