O Paul Cartledge γεννήθηκε το 1947 στην Αγγλία. Σπούδασε στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης. Δίδαξε στο Νέο Πανεπιστήμιο του Ώλστερ, στο Trinity College του Δουβλίνου, στο πανεπιστήμιο του Warwick και στο πανεπιστήμιο του Καίμπριτζ, όπου στο διάστημα 2008-14 ανέλαβε την νεοσυσταθείσα έδρα Λεβέντη ως καθηγητής ελληνικού πολιτισμού. Είναι επίσης επισκέπτης καθηγητής στο πανεπιστήμιο της Νέας Υόρκης, με χρηματοδότηση του ελληνικού κοινοβουλίου. Είναι επίσης μέλος της συντακτικής επιτροπής των επιθεωρήσεων Dialogos, International History Review και History of Political Thought. Έργα του είναι: Sparta and Lakonia.
