O Robert Littell γεννήθηκε το 1935 στη Νέα Υόρκη. Είναι Εβραίος ρωσικής καταγωγής και ζει στη Γαλλία. Ως δημοσιογράφος δούλεψε πολλά χρόνια στο περιοδικό Newsweek, στη διάρκεια του Ψυχρού Πολέμου και ως συγγραφέας ειδικεύεται στα μυθιστορήματα κατασκοπείας που αφορούν τη CIA και τη Σοβιετική Ένωση.
